Before Layout of Our Loft Decor

Part of finishing our basement includes furnishing the space, which we planned to do with our current loft furniture. Reason being, I’ve wanted a big, cozy cream sectional ever since we moved in. However, Kevin needed something more supportive for his back, hence our La-Z-Boy recliners in the first floor living room. The compromise? Our loft decor is 100% under my authority.

Let’s Head Upstairs

Here’s a quick tour of what you see when you come upstairs.

Upstairs Living Room Area

To the left you have the living area, straight ahead is the master bedroom and laundry room, and off the the right is the hallway to the rest of the bedrooms and hall bathroom.

As you can see, Bickell was gracious enough to model this space for you. Now let’s chat about our current loft decor.

Our Current Loft Decor

The loft absorbed our previous condo’s furniture right from the start. We had the movers put it upstairs the day we moved in to avoid moving it again. It’s a great set from Ashley Furniture, and we actually bought the chair and ottoman from Kevin’s uncle. He renovates houses and used them as staging furniture; they were sat on maybe twice, and gave us an amazing deal. It was completely worth it to then buy the 3-seater sofa from the store to complete the set.

Given how we fell into that deal of the century, we didn’t necessarily pick out the colors, so while we still love the set, I wanted something else in my loft. Why buy new furniture for the basement when we can move a perfectly functional set down and do up the loft how I’ve always wanted, right?

Couch Lamp Table Decor

We still love the coffee table too, so that’ll get moved to basement with the current set. I have an ottoman coming with the new furniture, so there won’t be space for the table in the loft.

Plans for Our Loft Decor

Since we have no plans of redecorating our main floor living space anytime soon, I recently ordered a dreamy cream sectional sofa for our loft! It’s due to arrive July 2, but I’ve got my fingers crossed it’ll miraculously arrive sooner. I’ve begun picking up some pieces for the space so that way once the couch arrives we’re pretty much ready to plug all the new decor into the space.

Shop the Space

While I’m redecorating the loft, that doesn’t mean this decor is obsolete. In fact, most if not every single item I’m moving out of the loft is simply coming to our new basement space. Below are links to the current decor.

The current brown couch, oversized chair, ottoman and coffee table will be going to the basement, so we’re starting from basically scratch in the loft. We’ll be keeping the entertainment center, TV and tree mostly because moving that entertainment center and all of the technology would be a nightmare to move and it will match the new aesthetic wonderfully anyway.

As mentioned, I have a matching ottoman coming so I shopped around for a beautiful tray to provide some decor and stable surface area to the space. This is the exact wood and black tray I picked up from Target.

My Cream Sofa Mood Board

Given the amount of time between ordering our new cream sofa and when it will actually arrive (over three months) I’ve had plenty of time to mood board and design around my new piece. I’ll be decorating with a lot neutrals and greenery, almost exclusively. I’m going for a very bright and airy aesthetic to match the space.

Upstairs Living Room Couch

My favorite purchase so far has been the console table you see pictured in the collage. I bought two of these and will be applying furniture pads to the two long sides of the wood top (decor hack: this keeps the table from scuffing the wall) and placing them between the couch and the wall, on the wall where the brown couch currently sits. This is a strategic design choice to make a place for drinking glasses, taller decor, etc. without being in reach of future children. As mentioned, the coffee table will be going to the basement so we needed a flat surface to replace it.

Below are some pieces I’ve purchased, some I’m debating purchasing and other pieces that would look great in a similar aesthetic.

Later this summer you’ll see the fully redesigned loft space. For now, as far as home decor and projects go, I’ll be preparing to finish the basement and hopefully finish furnishing the patio. Looking very forward to sharing each of those and more with you!
