With a toddler and another on the way (when we started this makeover) I wasn’t sure this space would ever be what I wanted it to be. I’m glad to say, I was very wrong, and this room is officially finished! The flip from mostly-business office, to closet office, was much simpler than I initially thought. First, we’ll quickly look at the ‘before’ and I’ll share a source list of the ‘after’ at the end.

Closet Office Before
A few years ago I shared what this home studio workspace looked like at the time. It was SO different, primarily because I also used this space for crafting, and for that, felt like I needed to keep this giant IKEA desk. Over time, it became a collector of junk because it was so big and it didn’t force me to address things piled on it in a timely fashion.

Turns out just removing that piece made a HUGE difference! Honestly, since having Alexis I’ve done way less crafting anyways. All craft supplies were put in the basement built-in cabinets and I can pull out a folding table down there when it’s craft time again.

Closet Office Makeover Reveal
Drumroll, please…

Isn’t she a beauty??
If you’re a follower on Instagram, chances are you’ve seen at least a small peek at this space. This is where I film a lot of my Instagram try ons, fashion videos, unboxing videos, etc. It’s a gorgeous space that I’m very happy with so it’s getting a lot of mileage!
Getting rid of that desk that wasn’t getting used productively opened up this room to endless possibilities. Ultimately, I needed a bigger wardrobe space for try ons and all of the clothing hauls I like to share. Plus, these pieces provide storage on the bottom, which is a HUGE perk for me! I’m able to store blog business supplies in plain sight i.e. camera equipment, filming accessories, etc.
Key Closet Office Improvements
Now, let’s break down some individual spaces and improvements.
Bigger, Non-Bevelled Mirror
This change may have the biggest continuing impact on my content. Previously, mirror selfies and try ons always had the edges of the mirror in it because it wasn’t very wide. But worse, the edge was bevelled so oftentimes there was a second copy of me, or a limb, or a random object in it which just looked awful.

This new mirror is 31″ wide and rarely even shows the edges in my photos nonetheless duplicate copies of objects. My content in here looks so much cleaner!
Adding a Makeup Vanity
This addition is much more than just a spot to film a GRWM video. This vanity is where I do my makeup daily. It’s a place to keep all of my beauty products and the drawers are super spacious for overflow. We’ll look deeper into this area later.
Adding Beautiful Seating
Before my white and gold shelves, this is the backdrop on which I filmed a lot of videos. It’s just so pretty!

It serves not just as functional seating but is still a great for shooting content on. My clear acrylic tray moves around the room but I usually keep it near the chair for seated filming.
Brand New Closet Office Tour
Let’s look at each main area of my new closet office in more detail.
Clothing Shelves
These white and gold shelves are the focal point of the room. Situated directly diagonal from the door, they’re the main focal point upon entry.

They were the first thing I dreamt up once the makeover was underway. My previous clothing rack wasn’t as spacious, had zero storage and just didn’t fill out my space very well. With the makeover, I wanted something I could keep growing into and use as a picturesque backdrop for filming.

They’re far from just decorative, though. These white and gold pieces house clothing and accessories for future content. There’s also storage on the bottom of each piece to keep things like filming equipment handy, but out of sight.

The right shelf is a functional wardrobe with a tall opening for hanging clothing.
I filled the space out vertically by displaying my designer boxes on the very top. They’re super topical for a wardrobe and my specific boxes actually match the shelving perfectly. I’m obsessed!

The bookcase to the left is more so decorative but balances out the corner. I didn’t really want to get two identical wardrobe pieces and this bookcase shelving matched perfectly. Plus, the bottom holds more storage, and I can never have too much of that!

In addition to filming clothing try ons, fashion videos, and even livestreams here, this space is now great for filming brand content. It’s a bright and light space that gives off a very inviting vibe for lots of different uses. This room has quickly become one of my favorite rooms in the house!
Makeup Vanity
For me personally, a vanity was a necessity, regardless of where it went in my home. But since I had the room in my closet office space, I figured I may as well put it here! It’s really just for me, so it makes sense to go in here.

I can’t stress enough just how affordable this setup is compared to some others I saw online! I saw some in the thousands of dollars range and I just didn’t want to pay that for a vanity. All of my pieces are linked in the source list at the end, but spoiler alert: the base is just a desk from Ikea!

One of the BEST parts of this vanity is also the storage. Between my shelves and the vanity this space has become the go-to place for blog equipment and extra beauty products.

I got this clear acrylic beauty organizer yeaaarrsss ago. Likely from Homegoods or T.J. Maxx but I found an absolutely identical one on Amazon. I love the idea of hidden storage usually, but with beauty products I like to be able to find them quickly because there’s just so much going on. Clear is the way to go!

Plus, with a rather otherwise clean vanity surface, the clear acrylic organizer showing all my products works. It’s the only ‘busy’ looking item.

This is also the perfect spot to display really nice products, like my favorite perfume.

On the far righthand side is my beauty fridge. This is where I keep face masks, eye masks, some essential oil rollers and more. Not only do really fresh products keep better cool, but things like masks and some essential oil rollers feel so much better when applied cool.
What’s on the other side of the room?
There’s one angle of the room that’s hardly ever on camera. Despite maybe hoping to see some sort of mess or chaos, it’s just a closet and some business supplies. I sometimes call it my “business center” jokingly. 🙂

This is the area of the room that makes it part office. I have a 2×2 cube shelf with office supplies, packing materials and other business-related equipment.
Fun Fact: I’m also a big advocate for minimizing waste through secondhand clothing and products, and have a pretty active Mercari shop. I need somewhere to store packing supplies and things I’m selling, so these cubes hide those items perfectly (although, you can kind of see packing supplies peeking out of that bottom-right drawer).

You’ll also see a ring light, a tripod, my acrylic dry erase calendar, and a gold vase that sleekly hides my retractable dry erase markers. Admittedly, I don’t use this calendar as much since kids happened because it’s harder to do administrative work up here. However, it’s a lovely touch to this space still, and will hopefully get more use again one day!
