Spooky season is here! As with every new season I’ve updated my farmhouse shelving display, this time with all the orange, purple, black and spooky. My Halloween decor display is probably my favorite all year and it keeps getting better. Read on for details, shelf styling tips and source links where I’m able to provide them.
And of course, you have to let me know your favorite pieces in the comments at the end!
My Halloween Buffet Decor Display
My very first Halloween pieces were my “Trick” and “Treat” Rae Dunn mugs. They’re actually two of the same mug, they both say “Trick” and “Treat” on either side so they’re very easy to style!
Every season I change out the front two mugs on my mug stand to match my display. You could change all of them out but you don’t see the fronts of all of them so I don’t think it’s terribly necessary.
My Ouija board plate is one of my favorite pieces! It’s very much my style and looks just like the board in plate version. It’s not kitschy, it’s genuinely really mystical and magical looking which makes some of my favorite Halloween decor!
This tiered tray was a recent TJ Maxx find. It reminds me a lot of one I saw at Decocrated (example linked here) from their summer 2020 box. I believe it’s still available in their members’ shop. Mine is adorned with wood signs, DIY crafts and even a cauldron of hot cocoa mix that I use for decor.
Farmhouse Shelves Halloween Decor
Each season I decorate the bottom shelf of the two shelves to tie into the Halloween decor display on the buffet table.
These potion bottles were from Michael’s last year, I just love them! It looks like they have a variety of different bottles each year because the ones I tagged in the source list are slightly different but similar in style. I suggest grabbing a few when you see what you like because you never know when they’ll rotate them out!
Other Halloween Home Decor
While my buffet and shelves are the main area I decorate, I add touches of each season throughout the house. Keeping most of it in one spot makes decorating so much more manageable, but it does make me smile seeing little pops of color throughout or otherwise neutrally decorated home.
Kitchen Table Decor
We have the same basic centerpiece year-round but I change out the placemat and add pieces to the dish with different seasons.
My orange leaf place mat is such a vibrant pop of color in the fall, and I add these little paper mache pumpkin vase fillers to really drive home the theme.
Main Hallway Halloween Decor
This bench is one of the first things you see when you walk in the front door. I normally keep neutral stripe and button pillows on here, but swap it out for the Halloween and winter seasons. This spooky scene Halloween lumbar pillow is one of my favorite piece of decor!
Next, as we move down the hall I have a few trinkets on the basement door.
Pro Tip: I use this blue sticky tack on the bottom of all my signs to keep them from clanking on the door and potentially scraping it. This tack is really a new house essential, every home should have some! I’ve also had this same exact pack linked here since we moved in March 2019, it lasts FOREVER!
Just to the left you can see my main hallway console table. This is probably the second most heavily decorated spot. It’s a central location whether you’re coming into the house, coming up from the basement or coming downstairs (both stairs are right in front of that table) so I like to concentrate the festiveness there, too.
Last year I found a bunch of spooky book decor and decided to make this a little haunted library area. I kept some of my normal pieces on the table since they fit in fine (i.e. vase, lamp) and added my seasonal decor around them. The wall bat decor is one of my favorite additions to the space from last year. They’re from Amazon and a super easy way to add a lot of festiveness to a space.
My pumpkin vending machine is Kevin’s favorite piece! He’s a huge fan of all things pumpkin so I knew he’d love it when I found it at Homegoods last year. While I can’t link to Homegoods, and they may not even make it anymore, I’ve seen this exact one on Mercari before. Try searching ‘pumpkin vending machine’ and/or ‘Haymarket Square’ (the maker). I believe it was originally around $30/$40 or so, for reference.
My Magical Halloween Piano
There’s something about our piano that really shines during the Halloween season. Maybe it’s all the self-playing pianos you see in spooky movies? Ours doesn’t do that, thankfully. ?
This Madame Majika’s sign is from Hobby Lobby and I bought it without even knowing where I’d use it. Thankfully, I got home and took one look at the piano and loved the vibe I got. The older style of the piano really vibes with the enchantments and spells the sign brings to the space. I couldn’t remember what else I had here last year, so it’s always possible this space changes a bit in the next few weeks.
This is the area across from the piano in our ‘plant room’. I kept it very simple with a few miscellaneous pumpkins, including the glitter ones I made myself in this DIY glitter pumpkin post.
Living Room Halloween Decor
This ghost trio is possibly my favorite 2021 Halloween decor find! Kev and I popped into a TJ Maxx on our recent Wisconsin road trip and it was an excellent stop. Most of my Halloween Rae Dunn came from that stop plus these cute ghosts.
Kevin says the pumpkin one is him because he loves all things pumpkin (#basic), I’m the Halloween loving witch hat ghost and the devil horns are the dog, ha! He is actually a very good boy but a total stinker when he wants to play.
Every year I add just a few pieces, like candles and pumpkins, to the year-round decor on our living room ladder shelf. This spot is a cozy corner of the living room that is mostly decorative but offers additional seating when we have guests and the ladder shelf has our Alexa on it.
For a general fall aesthetic that will carry through past Halloween, I added a few pumpkins and swapped out the potpourri in my lantern on our farmhouse entertainment center. The deep green pumpkin towards the left is from this season’s fall Decocreated box, save $15 with TFFH15 if you want to give it a try!
Kitchen Halloween Decor
I’ve decided to not do as much decorating in the kitchen for the sake of keeping it as functional as possible, but I can’t resist dolling up my tiered coffee bar tray.
Keeping it simple, I have my year-round Rae Dunn pieces plus a skeleton mug I found last year at TJ Maxx and a cute wood sign. Doesn’t add too much extra volume to the space so the coffee bar area is still fully functional.
Halloween Decor Display Source List
A lot of items are from Homegoods, TJ Maxx and Hobby Lobby and they don’t have [reliable] online shopping options. If I’m able to find a similar decor piece elsewhere I’ve tagged it as a similar piece next to it, but want to be sure you know where I got the original piece in case you decide to try thrifting on Mercari or Poshmark. Happy shopping!
