As with most Starbucks limited-time drinks, I’m here to let you know what’s up with the Crystal Ball Frappuccino. Admittedly, this one took my by surprise. I had no idea there was a new drink coming out until my coworker asked if I was going to try it. This kind of negligence won’t happen again, I promise, fam.
So, naturally the pooch and I took a trip to Starbucks on lunch for a little frozen frappe snack, and here’s what we learned.
Overall Impression of the Crystal Ball Frappuccino
It’s good. But I may still be biased from the Unicorn Frappuccino debacle. I stand by today’s impression though, the Crystal Ball Frappuccino was good. That’s it though. It wasn’t amazing, but that has a lot to do with the flavor and what is (or isn’t) in it.
Starbucks Crystal Ball Frapp Flavor
It’s a solid peach drink. No fancy mix of flavors no one can pronounce. It was definitely on the sweeter side. The peach flavor was very refreshing, though. I’m not typically a fan of a peach by itself but this was good. It’s likely more of a bold fruity flavor because – and here’s where I take issue – there’s no caffeine in it.
That’s right, there’s no caffeine in this frappuccino if ordered as-is. I opted to order mine with a single shot of espresso because I didn’t leave the south side my couch for this.
This drink should have green syrup drizzled on the sides for a mystical/mysterious effect, but mine was all on the bottom. Mysterious indeed, but definitely not mystical.
Special Crystal Ball Sprinkles
Buckle up, these are no regular sprinkles. They are fortune telling sprinkles. Not even your barista can predict what’s coming for you (unless of course, they simply keep track of where they put one of three opaque shakers).
Blue Sprinkles mean adventure is your destiny.
Green Sprinkles mean you should get ready for some good luck to come your way.
Purple Sprinkles mean you can expect magic, wonder and enchantment in your future.
My adventure must have been the mosquito that landed in my drink while I was taking a picture of it. I didn’t notice until I was home and my drink was basically gone. Cool cool cool.
Another adventure was trying to get a decent picture of the drink because the barista put the label half over the Starbucks logo. Really, guys? Pretty sure this is how baristas get their shots in at the people ordering these Instagrammable drinks.
Maybe if I was graced with green sprinkles I wouldn’t have ended up with a label covered, mosquito-ridden beige Frappuccino?
Nutrition Facts
It’s a Frappuccino, so you already know it’s not good for you, but here’s the breakdown in numbers:
The Crystal Ball Frappuccino is 270 calories and contains 11 grams of fat and 37 grams of sugar when made with whole milk and whipped cream, which is the standard recipe. (woof) So, you can always cut back by ordering it with skim milk and asking for light whipped cream, because you can’t go no whip or you won’t get your fortune!
Is it worth it?
If you’re curious to try it and/or like sweet and fruity drinks, yes. It’ll be around through March 26, 2018 for you to get your hands on. If you don’t care that much about peach-flavored blended cream, topped with more whipped cream, then you can probably pass this one up. Unless you’re trying to get your fortune read for under $5, then there’s really no better deal.
