One of my favorite cold weather treats is a Starbucks white hot chocolate. The white chocolate spin on the classic hot cocoa drink comes about because most of their chocolate menu items are too rich for me. So, I opted for their something on the less rich side which brings us here.
Like every other food I find myself ordering regularly, I became curious about a cheaper homemade version. I checked the Starbucks website for this drink’s ingredients and it’s essentially just milk and white chocolate syrup. After that confirmation, I knew this could be done at home.
White Hot Chocolate Ingredients
- 3/4 cup white chocolate chips (can sub with 6 oz white chocolate shavings)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 cups of fat free milk (or milk of choice)
- Whipped cream (optional)
- Andes mints (optional)
Making My White Hot Chocolate
- Mix the 4 cups of milk, 2 tsp of vanilla extract, and 6 oz of chocolate chips in a medium saucepan.
- Set flame to medium heat, do not let it boil.
- Occasionally stir with a whisk to ensure even mixing, and that it’s not melting into one lump and burning.
- Once the chocolate is completely melted, turn heat off and pour into mugs immediately, do not let it sit.
- Optional: top with whipped cream and Andes mints.
What were your thoughts? It’s pretty simple, right? Have you ever tried a white hot chocolate or do you stick to the classic milk chocolate hot cocoa? Would love to hear your favorite variations in the comments!
