Introducing… Alexis Nicole Burk!

On April 5 at 3:44 a.m., we welcomed our first born baby girl, Alexis Nicole Burk!

Baby Alexis in Hospital

She arrived at 39 weeks and 1 day. The goal with gestational diabetes is to keep that baby growing healthily en utero until at least 37 weeks and I couldn’t be more proud to say that I was able to do so. So much so that she was actually a scheduled induction, but I’ll talk more about that in my dedicated birth experience post coming after my leave.

History of Baby Alexis’ Name

I’ve loved the idea of giving my future baby girl an ‘A’ name long before we were trying to conceive. How cute to match your new little bestie, right? Even so, Kev and I went through an entire baby book, from A to Z, to not rule any good names out.

Anyone who knows me, knows I’m a big Schitt’s Creek fan, and yes, that’s where the name Alexis first stuck out to me. There’s also nice history behind the name in general. Our book says the name Alexis means a defender or helper, which I think is fitting for an oldest child. When I suggested it to Kevin he really liked it and we knew pretty early on this was her name!

Alexis Birth Announcement Bassinet

Her middle name, Nicole, is actually also my middle name. We tossed it in there, seeing how we liked it since it was already in the family, and it conveniently flowed really well between Alexis and Burk so we rolled with it!

Thus, baby Alexis Nicole Burk’s name was born.

Programming Changes During My Maternity Leave

It’s incredibly important that I’m taking proper time to heal and bond with Alexis in her first few weeks. As such, I’ll be taking a proper 6-week maternity leave. New parents not feeling like they can take the leave they’re entitled to or medically need is a big problem in our country, and I hope that changes soon. I’ve made sure to budget this time for myself and my family. Thank you for your support of the blog and understanding during this time!

The New Norm
Working on our new norm. ♥️

You’ll see 1-2 new posts in your inbox that were already scheduled before I went into labor. After that, there won’t be any new blog posts until I’m back from maternity leave.

Blonde Hospital Baby

Activity on all social channels will be very minimal during my leave, but I do plan to share sporadic updates primarily on my Instagram as time allows, so be sure to follow us there for all the cute Alexis content!
