Caffeine is certainly a gift, but not all of us can handle too much of this good thing. I compiled this low caffeine Starbucks drink list because low caff drinks are hard to pinpoint on the menu. Whether you’re caffeine sensitive like me, need less caffeine in the afternoon or maybe you’re an expectant mother, this list will give you several different drinks you can order with 100 mg of caffeine or less.
Please note: all drink nutrition value and caffeine content is based off of a grande sized drink as pulled from the Starbucks mobile order app.
Starbucks Pink Drink
The Starbucks Pink Drink is a fan favorite, but did you know it doesn’t actually have that much caffeine? Weighing in at only 45 mg it’s one you can enjoy in both the morning and evening.
Plus, did you know I also have a recipe to make this refreshing pink beauty at home? Check it out here.
Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher
Traditionally very magenta colored, the Very Berry Hibiscus Starbucks Refresher can be made with milk instead of water. (And I’m guessing the syrup is now clear versus pink? Or at least it was at this Target).
A grande has only 45 mg of caffeine and is great if you like a drink that packs a less fruity punch. The hibiscus adds a softer, floral finishing undertone.
Starbucks Iced Chai Tea Latte with Sugar Free Vanilla
I customized this by ordering a grande iced chai tea latte with two pumps of chai and two pumps of sugar-free vanilla. The drink by default comes with four pumps of chai, which still seems like a lot, so adjust pumps down as needed.
This one is up there in caffeine, coming in at 95 mg in a grande. While it’s under 100 mg, it may still be a lot for some who are especially sensitive. If you like the drink, a tall has 70 mg of caffeine and you can save half for later (I definitely do, no judgment).
Teavana Sparkling Blood Orange Mango White Tea
If you’re looking for a little bubbly with your caffeine, this is the way to go. I’m also a big fan of blood orange, and it didn’t disappoint.
The entire bottle is only 40 mg of caffeine which is great if you’re looking for a lower dose option with powerful flavor. White tea has the least caffeine of all teas that have caffeine, so you’re always safer with a white tea.
Iced Shaken White Tea with Raspberry
Remember when Starbucks really advertised their shaken iced tea infusions in 2017? They’re still a thing, they’re just not the subjects of a big campaign, currently.
I’m having trouble finding their iced white tea on the app (hopefully they haven’t discontinued them!). So, I’m pulling from my previous Teavana employee experience, and here’s what I know. White tea has less caffeine than green tea. Their grande iced green tea has 25 mg of caffeine in it, so the iced white tea will have even less caffeine. I’m estimating this will clock in at around 15 mg of caffeine for a grande, so just a small jolt.
Iced Green Tea with Strawberry Base
As mentioned, a grande green tea has only 25 mg of caff, making it a perfect boost. In the picture, you’ll see it says “Add Strawberry Base”, let me explain what that means.
Short story: this drink was a fluke, but I plan to order it again using this photo as reference and see what happens.
Long Story: I asked a barista once if they have strawberry flavoring and he was like, “oh yea! I can add the strawberry base to it!” This drink is what I got, and it was AWESOME. However, on the app I’m only seeing “Strawberries” or “Strawberry Puree” as options, and I know neither of those are the same as “Strawberry Base”. Puree is chunky and the strawberries are the dried strawberries used in the Pink Drink. The “base” must be from another drink specifically, but that genius barista made a good call by adding it here. If you try ordering this you HAVE to let me know what happens in the comments below!
Iced Green Tea with Strawberry Puree
This is one of the two other drinks I mentioned above. I’d attempted to order strawberry again without specifying ‘base’, not knowing I had to, and got this. So moral of the story, if you order a drink with strawberry they’ll either ask you how you want it flavored or simply surprise you in a number of ways.
It’s a good option, but I personally don’t love the puree chunks. If you don’t mind it then you’re in luck because this drink has only 25 mg of caffeine in a grande.
Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte with Sugar Free Vanilla
This drink is my GOAT. It’s earthy but sweet and you just feel good drinking it. Unfortunately, there’s quite a bit of sugar in it, so I’ve also attempted to make my own at home versions. But let’s be honest, the real thing always tastes better.
A grande has 80 mg, so it’s on the higher side of caffeine, but boy is it delicious! I just wish Starbucks would lighten up on the amount of sugar they cut into their matcha powder.
Iced Coffee with Sugar Free Vanilla and Skim Milk
Disclaimer: for this one you have to get a tall to stay under the 100 mg of caffeine. This one has 90 mg in a tall but is the purest coffee based option if you’re on a stricter diet, are avoiding calories or sugars, etc.
There’s just a bit of milk and no sugar. Plus, you can always save half for the afternoon (like I did when I last ordered it).
Frozen Strawberry Lemonade
This is the only completely caffeine free option on my list, because the point of this list is to still get you a little boost without overdoing it. However, this drink was REALLY good, and I had to share it. If you’re over your caffeine allowance for the day but need a little flavor fix, this will do the trick.
It probably goes without saying, but this one has quite a bit of sugar, so orderer beware. A grande has 45 grams total. But DANG if it’s not delicious! Maybe try a tall if you’re looking for less sugar.
