The last big touch in our brand new farmhouse kitchen remodel is picking a kitchen window valance. You may remember I altered these cute Boho tassel curtains from Target by Opal House, but with the new back splash climbing up the side of the window we wanted to show it off.
Picking a Kitchen Window Valance Color
Our kitchen is mostly black and white, done so intentionally to allow creative freedom with our gadgets, decor, towels, etc. so I knew I could have fun with this if I wanted.
As you’ve seen recently, I have a lot of soft pink decor in my kitchen to add subtle pops of color, and wanted to see how a pink curtain might look. Enter my first option:
Pink & White Buffalo Check Valance
It’s a little hard to edit the photos for a true color depiction when there’s a window behind the subject, but this valance is a great balance of bold and soft. It excels in adding a pop of color but lacks in adding contrast like the rest of the kitchen.
Black & White Buffalo Check Valance
Option two is an identical curtain but in black and white. This one added more dramatic contrast which I liked, though it wasn’t necessarily a big risk or statement piece.
Black & White Buffalo Check Roman Shade Curtain
This last option is a Roman shade style curtain. I liked how it leaned into the farmhouse vibe we have going on, but ultimately, it hung down much farther than I liked. We want more natural light to come in so the Roman shade style was probably not it for us.
Which was your favorite?
The Winning Kitchen Window Valance
The classic black and white buffalo check valance was the winner! The dark contrast of the black squares against the white tile was the look we wanted and the 15″ valance let in plenty of natural sunlight. It’s a classic look and covers the entire width of the opening so it hides where the tile ends – total win!
Hopefully this has encourages you to doll up your window with a fun, colorful valance or a bold Roman shade. Each of the options linked above comes in several colors and styles.
