Shake up your Valentine’s Day dessert with a simple, festive homemade milkshake. I’m calling this recipe ‘Love Shake’ after the song Love Shack, because it’s all I can hear when making it!
Whether you’re going out for dinner, cooking at home or just getting wings at your favorite corner tap like Kevin and I, there’s nothing sweeter than a homemade dessert from your Valentine.
Valentine’s Day Dessert: Love Shake Ingredients
- Vanilla ice cream (or bae’s favorite flavor, can sub with non-dairy alternative)
- 1/4 cup milk (or more depending on container size, can sub with milk alternative)
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips*
- Red food dye*
- 2 tbsp vanilla extract
- Toppings to decorate with as preferred i.e. sprinkles, whipped cream, cherries, etc.
*you can sub the white chocolate chips and red food for red melting candies like these
Valentine’s Day Milkshake Prep
Step one will be melting your chocolate to a pourable viscosity. Follow instructions to melt according to whatever product you’re using. If you have no instructions, either simmer stovetop on low in a small pot or grab this Wilton melting cup. I’ve had similar Wilton melting cups for years and have used them for all sorts of baking including this shake, my homemade no bake cake pops (and these cake pops) and my hot chocolate bombs.
Either way, once the candy chips are liquified, add red food dye a little at a time, stirring until desired color is reached.
Once melted and mixed, drip the melted candy around the inside of the jar. It will harden pretty quickly and remain on the side easily so you can proceed to fill with your delicious shake! The red chocolate is primarily for aesthetic but will give your shake a little flavor and color if left in there long enough.
Blend the vanilla ice cream* and soy milk until a nice, thick-but-pourable consistency is reached, then pour in the final container. From there, I topped with whipped cream, some sprinkles and added a matching straw. It’s now ready to serve!
*use as much as needed to fill the glass that you plan to use, I added more to the blender a few times
A Milkshake for Any Occasion
Change up the melting candy and topping colors and you have yourself a treat for any occasion!
WhyΒ limit yourself to one delicious homemade milkshake a year? Add some mint in March, aΒ little flag in July, or some orange and dark chocolate in October.
